    Photoblog 2: Swamp

    Swamp at UL

This is a swamp located right behind the student union at my university.  There used to be alligators in it, and you can maybe see the sign that says:

    ALLIGATOR HABITAT

KEEP PETS OUT OF THE LAKE

    WATCH CHILDREN

    DO NOT FEED ALLIGATORS

..in case you were planning on letting your pets or children play in a swamp.  Really, though, I haven't seen any alligators in there in years--probably since I first started going to school there a few years ago.

    Under that another sign says:

    Please FEED

    THE FISH

    BUT STASH YOUR TRASH

..which isn't quite as cool.  They sell fish food in the student union from one of those quarter machines where you would normally find m&ms and chiclets.

    Alligator habitat//feed the fish

Last time I visited my family in Colorado after having moved to Louisiana, they asked if we had alligators in our backyards.  It's a stereotype of Louisiana that I hate, but what can I expect when the people who run this town do things like put swamps on a college campus?  Had I known about this swamp then, at least I could have said yes.
