    The Daily Plate


    Okay, I'm not really fat, but I recently I had someone ask me if I was pregnant.  Pregnant!  The problem is, my weight fluctuates a lot, so one month I might be more average and the next I'll have some bulging going on. 

    Well, I'm sick of it.

    I decided to sign up for The Daily Plate, a website that keeps track of calories for you without your having to do anything more than type in the name of what you ate.  It has a collection of food/drinks from different brands and restaurants, so you can be sure and pick the right one.  No worrying about counting calories by hand--carrying a notebook, that sort of thing.  It also gives you a recommended caloric intake based on information you provide, and will keep you updated throughout the day of how many calories you have left, the percentage of the total you've already eaten, etc.  There's also an iphone app you can download.

    For my first day, I decided to just go a regular day to see how I normally do.  I thought I was eating fairly healthily lately with just a few bad choices here and there.  Here are some things I learned: 

    1. Drinking a Slim-Fast shake is good and all, but it's pretty useless if you follow it up with a 440-calorie bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit. (I say  this with sarcasm...I KNOW it defeats the purpose of the shake.  But who knew that a biscuit was this BAD?)
    2. Coffee has a lot of calories.  The non-fat mocha I had to accompany the aforementioned biscuit was 240 calories.
    3. The biscuit, mocha, and Slim-Fast totalled 870 calories.  This all before 10:00am.
    4. The cheese I put on my salad for lunch probably had more calories than the entire rest of the salad itself.
    5. I ended my day (skipping dinner, even) at 143% of my % daily value

    So.  I'm going to stay with this thing and see how it goes. So far, I've had breakfast/brunch(?) and am at 37%.  This means a small snack/lunch and a normalish dinner and I should be good!
